Self-Care for Parents

  • 5 Steps

About

Parenting a child with additional needs is a beautiful, rewarding journey, but it can also be physically and emotionally demanding. As parents, it’s natural to focus entirely on meeting your child’s needs. However, prioritising your own well-being is just as essential. Not only for your own longevity and mental health, but for that of your child.  Self-care isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity. When you take the time to care for your mental, emotional, and physical health, you develop and maintain the tools, capacity and energy required to navigate the unique challenges of raising a neurodivergent child. It’s not just about surviving the day-to-day; it’s about thriving as a family. By nurturing yourself, you’re modelling healthy habits for your child, creating a calm and supportive home environment, and ensuring you have the capacity to provide the stability and co-regulation your child needs to feel secure and flourish. In this course, we’ll explore why self-care is vital for parents of children with additional needs, practical ways to integrate it into your life, and how it can benefit your entire family for the long term.
